Independent comics with a long memory

About Section 12

Section 12 is the flagship comic universe of Lenovations Press, built from decades of independent comic history, restored small-press stories, modern mysteries, and a growing cast of strange experiments, reluctant heroes, dangerous inmates, and unlikely allies.

A universe, not just one title.

The modern Section 12 site is designed to help readers explore the comics, characters, history, and creator-driven roots of the series.

Who We Are

Independent Comics Since 2014

Lenovations Press is an independent comic publisher founded by writer and publisher Len Mihalovich. The company grew from the original Section 12 stories of the 1990s and now publishes new comics, restored adventures, collected editions, and creator-driven stories across multiple genres.

Section 12 remains the flagship title of the publisher, but the catalog has expanded to include westerns, historical adventures, public-domain heroes, humor comics, horror stories, and creator-owned projects from a growing network of independent creators.

Whether the story involves super-powered inmates, frontier legends, fanboy misadventures, or forgotten monsters, the goal remains the same: create entertaining comics while supporting independent creators and creator-owned publishing.

Personnel Files

Meet the Experiments, Inmates, Heroes, and Rogues

The Personnel Files page is a searchable character database for the Section 12 universe. Each file includes character artwork, a short biography, and the character's first appearance.

This is the best place to learn who is who before jumping into the comics, especially as the universe expands across Flashback, Declassified, Lost Adventures, Awakenings, and other Section 12 stories.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Section 12?

Section 12 is a secret government project created to hide scientific failures, dangerous experiments, and people transformed by research gone wrong. The series combines superhero action, science fiction, mystery, and independent comic book weirdness.

Where should I start?

New readers can start with Section 12 (Onboarding) #1 for the quickest introduction, Section 12 (Flashback) #1 for the origin era, or Section 12 (Declassified) #1 for the modern storyline.

Why are there multiple Section 12 titles?

Each title covers a different part of the universe. Flashback presents the original era, Declassified follows the modern mystery, Lost Adventures restores unpublished stories from the original period, Onboarding introduces new readers, and MegaSize collects major arcs.

Are these books reprints?

No, Section 12 #1 was illustrated by artist Phil Miller in 1997 and was published in Black and White. There were no other stories released after that. Sadly quite a few more were written, drawn and ready to go.

These stories with the exception of #1 have never seen print. So they are all new. Let's add to that we now have 21st century technology to enhance them. The comics will be printed in full color and digitally lettered. We've got Phil Miller back and he is redrawing some of the original pages of issue #1 to make the story even better.

The current editions are colored, lettered, and expanded with the best the 21st century has to offer.

Do you do anything else besides Section 12?

Someone asked creator Len Mihalovich that question at a convention and a year later the Lenovations Press universe expanded with many other Section 12 titles.

Why support independent comics?

Independent comics allow creators to tell stories their own way. Every purchase helps fund new pages, new issues, new artists, and the next strange idea that probably seemed impossible until someone made it.

Beyond Section 12

More Than One Universe

While Section 12 remains the flagship title of Lenovations Press, it is only one part of a growing catalog of creator-owned comics and graphic novels.

Lenovations Press publishes stories across multiple genres including superheroes, westerns, historical adventures, humor comics, public-domain heroes, horror stories, and creator-focused projects.

Titles such as The Wild West Adventures of Buffalo Bill, Avenger New Blood, Uneven Ground, Fantastic FanBoys Adventures, and Tales of the Unknown demonstrate the publisher's commitment to exploring new ideas while supporting independent creators.

Living Rocket, the mascot of Lenovations Press, represents that spirit of adventure and creativity that runs throughout the publisher's growing catalog.
